Becoming an Assessor on behalf of ACHS

ACHS Assessor Eligibility Requirements

• At least five (5) years senior management experience in healthcare,
• Currently employed or be no more than five years (5) retired,
• Not have any suspensions or open investigations against any of your qualifications / registrations, and
• Be able to invest the time required to complete all necessary ACHS training requirements.
• Comply with all the reporting requirements and deadlines
• Work to a timetable / meet deadline in a wide range of situations
• Define and defend opinions / decisions with reference to the relevant standards and accreditation requirements
• Work cohesively as part of a diverse team
• Assessors are required to complete and submit a National Police Check every five (5) years. Continued registration is dependent on this clearance being confirmed.
• Adherence to ACHS Assessor Policies including conflict of interest, code of conduct, financial policies, and other relevant policies
• The AHSSQA Scheme requires Assessors to actively and fully:
  • participate in at least 20 accreditation assessment days under the Scheme in each 12-month period for Assessors not employed in health service organisations
  • participate in at least 10 accreditation assessment days under the Scheme in each 12-month period for Assessors where their primary place employment is in a health service organisation

Based on your current role type, the following additional requirements also apply:

• Medical Clinicians and Administrators must have Fellowship status in their specialist College and have held their specialist appointment within a health service for at least five years.
• Nurse Clinicians and Managers must have held senior clinical and leadership positions within a health service for at least five years.
• Health Service Managers must have held senior / executive positions within a health service for at least five years and hold a qualification in management.
• Allied Health Professionals must have held senior clinical positions and / or have had administrative responsibility for clinical service provision for a period of at least five years.
• Quality Managers must have held positions at Tier 2 or 3 management level and / or have had administrative responsibility for quality and safety programs / systems and have held a position at this level for at least five years.
• General Practitioners (GPs) must be vocationally registered under the Health Insurance (Vocational Registration of General Practitioners) Regulations 1989 (CT) and if appointed after 31 October 2017, hold Fellowship of the RACGP or Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM), satisfy their College’s requirements for the continuing professional development program and have at least five years full-time or equivalent part-time experience as a vocationally registered GP; and
  • be working at least two sessions a week in face-to-face patient contact in an accredited general practice, and have done so for the last two years; OR
  • have worked at least two sessions a week in face-to-face patient contact in an accredited General Practice within the last two years.
• Non-GPs assessing to the Australian RACGP Standards can be an appropriately qualified nurse, practice manager, allied health professional, or Aboriginal health worker or health practitioner, must have at least five years full-time equivalent experience; and
  • must be working at least 16 hours a week in an accredited general practice, and have done so for the last two years; OR
  • have worked at least 16 hours a week in an accredited General Practice in the last two years.
