ACHS Improvement Academy supports Sydney-based Cancer Centre with Quality Improvement Training
Our ACHS Improvement Academy Director, Associate Professor Bernie Harrison recently ran a QI Demystified custom training session at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse, Sydney.

Our recent custom training session at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse was a great success, igniting meaningful discussion and reflection. Chris O’Brien Lifehouse is a world-class, not-for-profit, integrated cancer hospital dedicated to treating and researching cancer while enhancing the quality of life for patients and their families. Its model of care is patient-centred, research-driven, and delivered through co-located services, ensuring seamless treatment without the need for multiple appointments across different locations.
The custom training session focused on Quality Improvement (QI) in healthcare, promoting a systematic, data-driven approach to enhancing patient outcomes, safety, and efficiency through continuous assessment, collaboration, and evidence-based methodologies. For a patient-centred and holistic healthcare facility like Chris O’Brien Lifehouse, QI is a key pillar of delivering high standards of care, driving innovation and improving patient outcomes.
Key areas of QI including Clinical Governance Principles, the application of QI science and incident management were explored during the session. It also introduced best practice in consumer centred care, using a co-design case study involving cancer patients to demonstrate how the patient perspective can add meaningful value to healthcare solutions.
The session sparked valuable discussions and engagement for staff at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse that will support future actions enhancing patient care.
