Congratulations Dr Neale Fong – awarded the ACHS Medal 2023.
Now in its 39th year, the ACHS Medal continues to shine a spotlight on individuals driving quality and safety advancements in Australian healthcare.
It is with great pleasure we announce that Dr Neale Fong, has been honoured with the prestigious ACHS Medal for 2023. Dr Neale Fong is a distinguished medical practitioner with over 35 years’ experience across various domains of the healthcare landscape.
Dr. Fong's remarkable career showcases his commitment to innovation, dedication to quality healthcare, and pioneering spirit. During the early years of his career, he played a pivotal role in establishing and managing the first HIV/AIDS Assessment in Perth, WA. He led the development of crucial policies, standards, and protocols, addressing a public health crisis with compassion and expertise.
Dr Fong made a huge contribution as a pioneer in the health consumers’ movement. In 1998 he was appointed CEO of Australia’s largest private hospital at the time where he was appointed the first consumer advocate to the Hospital Management Committee.
He was heavily involved through being a member, Australian Health Ministers Advisory Council and Council of Australian Governments for the establishment of the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care in 2006.
In his role as President of the ACHSM he has also led the importance of quality and safety in all aspects of healthy are management and championed this through educational webinars and conferences. Click here to find out more about his career.
During the ACHS Annual Awards Ceremony 2023, ACHS President, Professor Len Notaras AO commended Dr Fong for his outstanding career.
In presenting the award, Professor Notaras said, “Dr Neale Fong has been nominated for his outstanding achievements in the promotion of quality in health care. Dr Fong has an extensive history of accomplishments, and his contributions cover many areas of the healthcare system.”
