Celebrating 50 years with the ACHS Assessors

The 2024 ACHS Assessor Forums brought together assessors nationwide to foster collaboration, share insights, and celebrate 50 years of excellence in healthcare quality and safety.

Each year, ACHS Assessors attend annual training to share valuable insights and experiences from their assessments, fostering a culture of reliability and consistency across the process to better support our Members. Key issues identified throughout the year are carefully compiled, summarised, and presented for group discussion, driving continuous improvement in our assessment practices.

The Assessor Forums, held in Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, and Melbourne, provide a valuable opportunity for Assessors to connect, exchange knowledge, and engage with their peers. The Forum program is shaped by feedback from a diverse range of sources, including our Members, the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (ACSQHC), and our Assessors themselves, ensuring it remains relevant and responsive to emerging issues.

It was my first Assessor Forum and I found the topics, presentation and discussion very relevant and well presented

As ACHS celebrates its 50th year of dedication to improving the safety and quality of healthcare in Australia, we took the opportunity at this year’s Assessor Forums to reflect on the extraordinary role our assessors have played throughout this journey. For five decades, ACHS Assessors have consistently delivered an outstanding level of service, and their ongoing contributions and commitment remain a cornerstone of our success.

Each Forum concluded with a special celebration, where the longest-serving Assessor in attendance was invited to cut the 50th Anniversary cake - honouring their years of dedication. We acknowledge the following Asessors.

•    Brisbane: Mr Graham Hyde OAM PHF – 1996
•    Perth: Ms Marion Holden – 1994
•    Sydney: Mr Matthew Chu – 1989 & Mr Alex Bennie – 1984
•    Melbourne: Mr Kim Darby – 1990
