Meet Emelyn Jimenez – Administrative Assistant at ACHS

Welcome to our Staff Spotlight where we introduce our great team members who work tirelessly to support ACHS Members and the broader healthcare community.

In this edition, we learn more about Emelyn Jimenez who is an Administrative Assistant at the Accreditation Administration Division.

Tell us about your journey with ACHS, how long have you been working here?
May 2019 marked the beginning of my almost 6-year journey with ACHS. As my background and previous work experience was in Finance, it came as a complete career shift when I joined the Administration and Accreditation (AA) Team of ACHS as an Administrative Assistant.

How does your role support ACHS Members and the organisation as a whole?
My role requires working closely with our Customer Service Managers (CSMs), other units in ACHS, including Assessors, and ACHS Members. I support organisational membership renewal and accreditation processing.

Lately, my work has spanned into processing Assessment Reports to ensure that they comply with ACHS reporting standards and are completed within the given timeframe for use and guidance of our ACHS Members.

What do you find most rewarding about working in the healthcare sector, and how has it shaped your perspective?
Years ago, I was supposed to take up Nursing at University but it was not for me due to my aversion to blood. Little did I know that I will be involved in the healthcare sector later, albeit in an administrative role.

I have learned to appreciate that healthcare providers are continuously striving to deliver quality care service amidst the challenges and demands of new viruses, technology, legislative and regulatory requirements.  The Accreditation process has opened my eyes to the evolving journey of the healthcare sector as it needs to comply with new and more healthcare standards.

Can you share a project or initiative you’ve worked on that you found particularly interesting or meaningful?
As my current role involves Assessment Report processing, I find it interesting working with the Business Data Intelligence Team and the IT Team to develop the required Report template, when new assessment programmes are made by ACHS or mandated by the Commission. Prior to releasing the correct Report format, a lot of steps and collaboration happen behind the scenes. Having a meaningful contribution to this process have made me more interested in the accreditation process.

Which healthcare figure or organisation most inspires you, and why?
I look up to the so many nameless faces of healthcare workers and professionals, from utility and maintenance personnel to nurses to pharmacists to clinicians and up to the top echelon executives, who have been the driving force in providing quality health care services to patients. Their unselfish dedication and devotion to their craft, especially during the Covid pandemic and emergency situations. They are the unsung, tireless, committed heroes who wear scrubs instead of capes.

What’s your favourite way to recharge and practise self-care?
Walking and gardening have helped me get through the stress of daily life. Walking has afforded me the opportunity to commune with nature and ponder about anything while burning those calories away. While it may be a bit of strenuous activity at times, gardening, on the other hand, makes me to be more patient and find joy and satisfaction specially when flowers bloom or even when new baby plants start to sprout.

Is there a particular healthcare topic or trend that you’re especially passionate about or curious to learn more about?
The healthcare sector will be confronted with issues of how technology, in particular Artificial Intelligence (AI), will play in advancing quality health care. How AI will affect the way healthcare professionals deliver their services and how they, as well as patients and other healthcare stakeholders, will react and accept AI and other technologies are interesting topics to delve into. How drastically will it change the landscape of the healthcare sector? I am just as curious as everybody else.

Thank you, Emelyn, for sharing your insights and experience with us. We look forward to bringing you further Staff Spotlight articles in the future and showcasing the incredible talent that we foster at ACHS.
