Sustainability at the ACHS Improvement Academy

Learn how the ACHS Improvement Academy are contributing to sustainability at ACHS.

With the recent launch of ACHS's Sustainability Strategy, the organisation is taking significant strides to ensure that its operations are environmentally responsible and sustainable. Our Strategy focuses on areas of Consumables, Energy Consumption and Environmental Impact.

Green Initiatives at the ACHS Improvement Academy

The ACHS Improvement Academy (IA) is a key player to sustainability at ACHS. We have been making contributions to the broader ACHS sustainability goals by shifting our operational practises, focusing on reducing waste and shifting transportation strategies for staff.

The most significant change in recent years is the move to virtual training for public events since the COVID pandemic. Previously, in-person training required presenters and participants to travel, often involving flights interstate. Since moving to virtual training, the Improvement Academy has drastically reduced the need for travel for hundreds of our training participants every year. Within our own teams, we have increased work from home arrangements, leading to reduced carbon emissions from travel.

The Improvement Academy have stopped issuing hard copy certificates and printed workbooks for its training. This has helped cut down printing for approximately 1,300 sheets of paper per year for certificates and 26,000 sheets for workbooks.  Certificates are now issued digitally, and course materials are also provided online

Our Commitment to Sustainability

ACHS have joined the Global Green and Healthy Hospitals (GGHH) as a Member to assist in our greener operations.

GGHH is an international network of hospitals, health care facilities, health systems and health organisations dedicated to reducing their environmental footprint and promoting public and environmental health.

The GGHH Guidance Documents for sustainability action offers a thorough and global perspective on GGHH’s sustainability objectives. Authored and reviewed by leading international experts, each document outlines a specific GGHH sustainability goal and explores various opportunities for GGHH members to take action and reduce their environmental impact.
