Updates to Clinical Indicator Sets - Infection Control and Day Patient

Each year the POS team co-ordinates the update of several of our indicator sets to ensure that they reflect the latest evidence and remain relevant to clinical practice.

We are pleased to release updates to Infection Control and Day Patient clinical indicator sets for data collection in the 1H of 2025 (data entry due by 20 August 2025).

Infection Control

Thank you to the members of the working party, chaired by Ann Whitfield, that updated the Infection Control clinical indicator set and user manual. Several changes were made to reflect current practice in surgical infection surveillance and antibiotic prophylaxis. The updated manual was endorsed by the Australasian College of Infection Prevention and Control and the ACHS Board and can be found on the POS user manual webpage.

Day Patient

The Day Patient clinical indicator set was also recently updated. Thank you to the working party, chaired by Gabrielle Moreland, for their expertise and commitment to the process. Definitions and exclusion and inclusion criteria for indicators were clarified. The new user manual is endorsed by Day Hospitals Australia and can be found on the POS user manual webpage.

Other clinical indicator sets under review include Gastrointestinal endoscopy, Hospital-wide, Medication Safety, Mental Health and Internal Medicine. We are grateful for the time and expertise the healthcare professionals nominated by collaborating colleges and societies give to these updates.

Please contact us if you have any questions or suggestions on how we can improve our clinical indicators, we welcome all feedback.
