The Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS) is an independent, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to improving quality in health care.

We are Australia’s leading healthcare assessment and accreditation provider

We take a partnership approach to continuous improvement, tailored to the needs of individual services and health systems, using our expertise in accreditation, standards development and education.

Representing governments, consumers and peak health bodies from throughout Australia, we work with healthcare professionals, consumers, and government and industry stakeholders to implement healthcare accreditation programs.

Since 1974 we have been developing standards for healthcare, in partnership with government and other industry associations.
Council members include peak bodies in health, representatives of government, and consumers.
Governed by a board of Directors which is elected by Council members and board-appointed, and supported by a corporate management structure.
Run a range of accreditation programs designed to improve overall quality of care in the sector.
Authorised accrediting agency by the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care.
Regularly consulted by other countries in relation to standards development, accreditation systems and clinical indicators.
